    Welcome

Welcome to Utah State University’s Department of Art + Design where we make and study art in a beautiful place. Our stunning location in a lovely mountain valley is unique and it’s just one of the things that makes the educational experience here exceptional. We are nationally accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design and proud of the high quality arts education we provide for our students. Our faculty are deeply committed to teaching and creative scholarship and our alumni go on to successful careers in the arts in the Intermountain West and around the world. Each year we host a vibrant series of visiting artists and designers and many of our students travel in the United States and abroad on faculty-led trips. Wherever you want to go, USU’s Department of Art + Design can get you there.

    The Department

We are a community of professionals and students committed to excellence in visual art, design and scholarship. We cultivate artistic and scholarly work that engages in innovative problem solving and critical thinking. Rigor, skill, inquiry, and innovation stand at the core of our values. We support and embrace the mission and goals of the Caine College of the Arts by recruiting, supporting, and graduating exceptional students, embracing diversity in all its forms, attracting and retaining an outstanding faculty, providing high quality arts education and experiences, and serving, enriching, and engaging the community. We offer a wide variety of degrees for undergraduates, including seven BFA options, the Bachelor of Interior Design, the BA in Art History, and the BS in General Art. The BFA and BID programs are rigorous and competitive, requiring at least one intensive year of foundational study prior to admission to the degree track. This rigor means that our graduates leave USU with professional-level skills and are well prepared to work in a variety of industries as well as to succeed in terminal-degree programs such as the MFA, M. Arch. and PhD. Our students go on to work and study around the globe and to take up leadership roles in art, design, and cultural institutions.
