    Fazilat received her undergraduate degree in Photography from the University of Tehran, Iran. Afterwards, she worked full time for four years as a photojournalist and editor at one of the most prestigious news agencies in Iran. She moved to the United States in 2011 and received her MFA with a specialization in Photography from the University of Cincinnati (DAAP), after which she transitioned into a Phd in Architectural history and Visual Studies.

    Her work has been exhibited at the Art and Craft Museum Los Angeles, Photo Focus Biennial Cincinnati, National Museum Cluj Napoca Romana, Art Dubai Gallery Dubai Emirate, and The City‘s Photo Museum Tehran Iran. In addition she has received the Jean Tatgenhorst Conrad Fellowship and Wolfstein Travel Fellowship. She has also been awarded the top rank in various photo competitions such as the Iranian National Photo Biannual and the annual Festival on Photo of the year. 
    Fazilat's work has mostly dealt with the political and social issues of her surroundings. Her main focus has been on documentary photography and she used this medium to recreate human stories and what they tell us about society. Her projects covered the issues of gender, sexuality and inequality throughout society along with human identities and culture differences.
